Travel, kids and a business

business entrepreneur kids travel May 10, 2023

I started this blog because I have taken the big risk of booking a 3 month trip to Australia with the kids on my own…

The last few weeks have been full of travel. I drove from North Wales to south of the UK to spend a week in a yurt in Cornwall. I took the kids and Lizzie the dog for an 8 hour drive. We didn't plan so well for the cold weather, so we were pleased they gave us extra stashes of wood for the log burner!

We enjoyed a week of beaches and beautiful coastal walks. I had been told there was good internet, but when I got there it kept cutting out. I had a difficult call with a lovely OT that cut out when she was in mid flow telling me her story.

After that I tried one more time before giving up and accepting this was not going to be a week of work. To be honest living with the kids in one room, without good internet - I was relieved to just make the decision to not work! When I say not work - I still managed to deliver the client calls I had booked in - by driving the car down the camping field and sitting in the car! But I did nothing more than that.

After Cornwall I dropped the kids off with their dad and started the epic journey towards the top of Scotland. Another 8 hours of travel North with Lizzie the dog who was due to be dropped off with some friends for 3 months.

I set off alone and had the most amazing 3 days of driving. I listened to part of my breathwork training as I drove and there was this time when I hit the stunning mountains and crystal clear lakes and I was stimulated by the breathwork, I was buzzing!

When I arrived in Scotland it was the most beautiful location. Hamish the stag walks through our friend's garden daily from the ancient woods. They have small ponies and dogs living next door. Lizzie was left with our friends in the happiest place for a dog ever. We are receiving daily photos of her playing with ponies, or on the beach!

But these 3 days were longer than I expected, staying in hotels and airbnbs and there was no way I was able to work - so I decided to stop working for a month. I knew I would not work during my travels to Australia the following day, and had also signed myself off for at least a week of jet lag.

Thank goodness for my team who were still able to keep the back end and front end of my business running. They were posting and connecting with people whilst I was unable to. I have set the business up so I have income coming in to cover the bills and provide a wage - so when travel gets too much I am able to take time off like this.

Arriving in Australia, the humidity hit us. Then the sound of the birds, cockatoos and curlews surprised us! It is so good to be able to spend 3 months with my brother and sister and their families! I feel so much gratitude that I am able to take my business on the road and flip to a completely different time zone!
